Primordial squig

This one represents one of my first attempts EVER!

As you can see not squiggy enough yet! Shape and proportions are wrong. Still worth displaying, I think.

Apart from the usual father-son affection and the respect for the amount of time spent on it, I do like the face and the spikes, the evil grim and the blindfold, the unusual short teeth and the jumping legs, although they make impossible for this mini to stay on the battleground properly. (I should pierce it with a staff at some point or glue it on a stone or something). The legs asymmetry was not intended, but no doubt if adds dynamism and a sense of movement (check second pic).

I should add a pic from above to better show the spikes and the plaques. But these guys are well caged and difficult to reach, of course... ;)

Techniques and materials are a secret!

My bigga squigga

I am deeply fascinated by squigs, on whom I centered many efforts over time. Of my many squigs, among the extra-sized ones, this is by far the best one. It dates back to 2013. Still not my last. Hope you like it.

Squig Theory 3

Dear Mgork followers, Sorry for the delay of this post. There is actually a very crucial detail I have not covered yet about squig design/modelling, that is legs!

First of all, there is a significant difference between normal/old squigs and new/cave squigs. The former are simpler with legs just normally put at the bottom of the mini. They are not that common any longer, but still an option for you models.

Among the many kinds of squigs the ones with a neat prevalence in Citadel products are the so-called cave squigs, showing a rather elliptic shape.

For the latters, legs represent a tricky detail to be accurately taken into account. Overall, they represent about 1/3 of the mass of the creature and are abnormally big. This justifies their extreme jumping power and the way of attacking (as reflected in the rules).

When you are creating your custom beast, you will immediately notice the following:
  • 1 pair of legs only (no small arms, like a T-rex)
  • they are normally showing crawls at the end
  • 3 "fingers" each side
Very importantly is the point were to glue/insert the legs. Face normally cover most of the front surface of the animal and I would advice to insert legs just at the end of the facial area.

This way knees will appear in most of the cases like surrounding the mouth on both sides, increasing therefore the impression of a really dynamic, on-the-run mini. The final effect is of course affected by the kind of shape of the legs you are applying.

Rotten tomatoes? Perfect squigs!

Long live google! I had intercepted these creatures quite a long time ago, but the time has come to properly share them with you all, fellas. Now they are again within radar sign, but cannot find an appropriate web source (manufacturer? web site?). Stay tuned on this post to know mor... k!

A new jerk in town

Took a day off to obey this call from the twin greens. Easy custom from the fanatics set. Still with some tricks you will not guess! (awful painting as usual).

The squig theory case - Case 4

Let's end this up on a 100% positive tone and with a video. Respect to these bros!

The squig theory - Case 2

Now it goes to some negative examples.
I hope we all agree these things here litterally suck. I mean well sculpted (maybe) and painted (much better than what I actually do). Still they are NOT squigs. In a world world they could be everything: from mushrooms to leeches, just NOT squigs as we mean them! SOURCE PS. the sculptor doesn't deny it and puts a lot of humour on these minis too. He has done something much better!

Here it comes, a real custom army!

This fella is exactly gone wherever any greenskin-addicted would love to end up: an entire heavily customised army! A mix of many brands and ideas! Congrats, bro! (Pity for the US theme) SOURCE

The squig theory - Case 1

Morning, greenheads (or afternoon, night, whatever!). Today I will take some more space for commenting. I apologise in advance. Point is, whenever it comes to squigs, I am extremely sensitive, as I have made many, I non-stop work on them and I clearly made up my minds on some things that one should or should NOT do.

Case 1

This is definitely a more than decent case of (mangler) squig(-s), as it respects some of the basic "rules", at least for cave squigs...

The one on the right has a big mouth filled with teeth, the second one a closed mouth again, but only few protruding teeth. Both make perfectly sense. Whenever trying to sculpt your own, you will immediately discover how crucial mouth and teeth are. You will find yourself starting many times exactly from there. They inform everything around it and occupy most of the face.

Point 2 is the eyes+noise: not less tricky, I swear. But remember this: squigs'eyes are FRONTAL. They aren't sharks or reptiles, so ensure to well put them on the front side of the face. This is 100% relevant and will prevent you from very bad surprises! Here we have two types: sunken (right-hand mini) ones, as most of cave squigs actually are, and frog-type (the one on the left). Most of the times nose is a pig-like compromise, as it is easier to make (both of them here).

Third point is the legs. Oh, the legs! My pain in the heck! If I found many tricks and solutions for all the other parts, legs are my nightmare. Just bear in mind for the moment they should occupy overall max 1/3 of the entire beast' size (for cave squigs, at least).

Giant squig

Big is big, but... I personally find it a bit static, I have to say!  Credits HERE

Bat-winged squig

Here an unusual flying squig! Donno to what extent compatible with the story and the game. Still amazing effect and customization!
