Asterix and gobbos

SOURCE
Here a classic, although never realised by Games Workshop, very common among amateurs and modellers. I call it "Asterix' village chef" architecture and implies two servants carrying a boss on their shoulders.

PS. Grateful if anyone could spot the origin of the small azure squig in the left-hand pic.

"One-over-the-other" hill greenskin 1

I apologise in the first place for the bad pics. If time allows, I will replace them with some better ones. I just feel urged to add a couple of my own creations into this blog. Just to be clear: my place is invaded and my head is raided!

I consider the Games Workshop greenskins to be too fit and muscled. Apart from some bosses, you see no bellies exposed, no hunchbackeds, no lames, no blinds, no maimeds. This simply does not match with the basic idea of a colourful, variegated and violent army, such as the greenskins, who differ in size, equipment and clothes, but not in agressivity and recklessly rush onto the heat of a fight.

The composition is pretty intuitive here: a bigger one is carrying or trying to get rid of a smaller, silly one. The "one-over-the-other" idea came pretty late and the pieces just seemed to combine well, but it was not meant like this from the start. Improvisation... greenish inspiration... MGork whispering at my ears...

The big guy seems wearing some furry skirt or apron. Not only a trick to cover the front part, as I really intended to have such an effect on the body. Legs are too small compared to the the torso, though. Especially considering the late addition of the snotling.

This is my first "release" of a series of hill greenskins, who will unfortunately stay aside still for quite a while for the benefit of some other works.

Facebook friends!

From my FB friend Warmog Painting. I love the tight space and the cartoon-like overall style. The horns on the belt-medaillon mocks GW's ogres. Not to mention the little box at the bottom.

Here you go with the description:

The basis of the model is an Avatars of War Dwarf Berserker with an Ork head (I sculpted a nose on with pro-create).

The weapon is cut down from the two-handed Dwarf axe on the berserker spue, and had the head from a single-handed axe added t
o minimise the Dwarf influence. I thought the rune looked okay to keep as decoration.

The gut plate is a 15mm Greek hoplite shield from Xyston Miniatures, and the shoulder pad is from the GW Lizardmen Saurus kit. After a scrounge through my bitz box, I eventually found an old plastic Chaos Warrior shoulder pad for the left shoulder (not shown in this picture).

Oh, and base-wise, I used a scrap of a cork coaster as a bit of rock (tip: I brushed some superglue on the surface of the cork to make it a better surface to glue the model to), and the treasure chest is from the Brettonian men at arms command sprue.

Phew! I did more on this guy than I thought!

Big bellied boss

I should not dare to comment on this great conversion. Especially after having lost its coordinates on the web! (Sorry to the author, I can only compensate with my overpositive review).

Here we can recognize a summary of goblinish bossitude: belly from Grom and stick from Skarsnik...

Apart from the great painting, just two observations for you.

  1. Bellies are an excellent trick to cover difficult part of your minis. Next post will be my bellied boss, one of many to come.
  2. Also another idea I already exploited (no mini painted though), why should only beasts to carry chariots. Sure your boss can exploit abundant amounts of manpower.

Here he comes, a new night gobbo (80% custom)

I am orcishly proud to introduce you all to my new night gobbo boss.

More to come soon!

Here it comes, a real custom army!

This fella is exactly gone wherever any greenskin-addicted would love to end up: an entire heavily customised army! A mix of many brands and ideas! Congrats, bro! (Pity for the US theme) SOURCE

Goblin - Hero

I am speechless. I found this lovely one where I did not expect to find it at all. Great graffiti on the pedestal. Smart idea to use the squig as the monster's head!
